7 common things we use that were actually discovered accidentally but you never knew about it:
Today we use most of the common things that were actually
discovered accidentally and we don’t know about it. Here you go with “7 common
things we use that were actually discovered accidentally”
MATCHSTICK:
MATCHSTICK:
In 1826, john walker – a chemist discovered what we called
matchsticks now through an accident.
When he striked the stick coated with chemicals in his
hearth, it just produced flame. There was 1st matchstick born. He
named them as “friction of lights” were made of cardboard in initially, later
he used wooden splints cut by hand.
But he didn’t patented it and thus Samuel jones in London
launched his own lucifiers that was exact copy of walker’s matchsticks.
SAFTEY PINS:
One day Walter hunt, was sitting over his desk while
thinking of how to pay his debts he was playing with piece of wire.
While handling piece of metal wire he thought that on
coiling it can clasped and unclasped again. Later he used clips in that and
patented over his idea of safety pins in 1849.
COCA COLA:
John pemberton, a pharmacist by profession, invented coca
cola accidently. He had become addictive to the morphine (obtained from opium).
Thus he was facing headache and thus he was trying to invent
opium free painkillers. By accident he mixed coca leaves and cola nuts with
carbonated water.
There was first coke generated. Later this became a secret recipe,
known as coca cola.
POTATO CHIPS:
George Crum, a chef in moon’s lake near Saratoga Spring,
New York invented potato chips for the first time.
He reportedly created salty snacks and customers were
complaining him that fried potato snacks were soggy and not crunchy enough.
Thus he cutted down all potatoes in as thin as possible
slices. From then it got allot of publicity and now it is huge market.
VASELINE:
Robert Augustus chesebrough, an 22 year old chemist was
exited to know what can be made with petroleum. Thus he went to a town where
the petroleum was found recently.
Accidentally he observed that the employees drilling
petroleum was using the by-products to heal their cuts, soothe skin and burns.
Later he turned his observations into a product which is now known as Vaseline.
TEA BAGS:
Though two women’s first filed a patent in 1901 for a "Tea-Leaf Holder" , the invention of the modern tea bag is credited to tea merchant Thomas Sullivan.
In 1908, Sullivan began shipping
samples of his tea out in small silk pouches—and though his intention wasn't
for people to use these as tea bags.
But customers customers did so anyway, and they loved the convenience of
it.thats how the tea bags were discovered accidentaly with no intension.
SUPER GLUE:
One of the thing we use commonly is super glue. Super glue
was purely an accidental discovery.
Dr. Harry coover, was attempting to create crystal clear
plastic gun sights during world war-II.
But during his earlier attempts the plastic he made was not
well for gunsights but were good in bonding the things. But he abandoned that
plastic.
Later 9 years later he got a project of making heat
resistant get canopies, along with Fred joyner.
Joyner discovered same glue. But this time coover didn’t ignored
it and tried to test it by placing layer of it in between two refractor prisms.
And surprisingly it
bonded that prism. Then he moved forward his accidental invention.
